It is helpful to be able to be able to identify the chipping notes of the common sparrows since they hide so well in the brush.
The song sparrow’s chip (chimp) is distinctive as it is loud and harsh. Note in the spectogram of the chip that it seems to be composed of two notes produced simultaneously that cover a wide range of frequencies.
The white-throated sparrow’s chip (tseet) sounds cleaner. It’s purer sound, appearing similar to a dot in its spectogram.
The swamp sparrow chip is a metalic chink.
